1987
The Running Man (Persecuted in Spain, The Survivor or Mortal Race in Latin America) is an American science fiction-action film released in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, María Conchita Alonso, Jesse Ventura, Jim Brown and Richard Dawson.
Based on a novel by Stephen King, the story is set in a dystopian 2017, where society was reduced to a police state in which any cultural activity is censored. The government appeases the population by broadcasting a series of television game shows in which convicted criminals fight for their lives.
The most popular and sadistic is "The Running Man," hosted by the ruthless Damon Killian (Richard Dawson), in which runners try to avoid "hunters" and death. Those who escape and win "should" be forgiven and released.
Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a former captain and helicopter pilot, imprisoned for a massacre he was actually trying to prevent, manages to escape from a concentration camp along with other inmates and arrives at an informal settlement outside of Los Angeles. While seeking refuge in his brother's apartment, he discovers that it is now occupied by the composer
Amber Méndez (María Conchita Alonso) who works for ICS, the television channel that transmits The Running Man. Richards kidnaps Amber and plans to fly to Hawaii, but she alerts security; so Richards is captured and taken to ICS studios.
Meanwhile, Amber decides to investigate the cover-up for the massacre that sent Richards to the concentration camp, but is discovered, charged with false charges, and sent into the show as well to be introduced as a runner. Upon arrival, he meets Richards and his two companions Laughlin (Yaphet Kotto) and Weiss (Marvin J. McIntyre).
The four must fight for their lives, locate the transmitting signal and discover the codes that would allow access to the control of the ICS communications satellite and retransmit the footage without tricking the Bakersfield massacre by proving that Richards is innocent and showing the truth behind him. game "The Running Man".
