"An impeccable exercise of atmospheric terror that draws on both the Lynchian and a deep knowledge of the sources of the genre (...) a joyous, blasphemous, irreverent and spectacular celebration of Evil"
It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2012. The Lords of Salem is an independent supernatural horror film; written, produced and directed by Rob Zombie.
Long ago, Salem (Massachusets) was the nerve center of evil, the place where witches held their covens. At present it is, at least in appearance, a normal city (FILMAFFINITY).
The Lords of Salem tells us a story of a group of witches in the town of Salem who are burned alive accused of witchcraft by the Reverend Jonathan Howthorne, these worshipers of the dark cast a curse against the descendants of Howthorne and that of their lineage would be born the Antichrist.
Heidi Howthorne (Sheri Moon Zombie) works as announcer at the local radio station and, along with her two colleagues, Whitey and Jackson (Jeff Daniel Phillips and Ken Foree), is part of "The great team of Radio H".
A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives in the mail. It is a gift for Heidi from the Lords. She believes that it is a rock group trying to spread their music. When Heidi and Whitey play the record, it begins to play backwards and Heidi experiences a flashback to her traumatizing past.
The arrival of another box of Los Señores contains free tickets and records to organize a rock concert in Salem. Later, Heidi and her friends discover that the show is far from the musical event they are hoping for. It is actually the Lords of Salem who are back to exact bloody revenge.
María Conchita Alonso plays Alice Matthias, the wife of Francis Matthias (Bruce Davison), who wrote a book about the Salem Witch Trials and discovers some music in the book she is reading realizing that it is the same one that it contains the disc.
