A 1988 film, it's about Bob Hodges (Robert Duvall), an experienced cop and Danny McGavin (Sean Penn), his rookie partner, must patrol the streets of Los Angeles as they try to keep gang violence under control.
​
Hodges has worked in South Central for many years and has the respect of gang members for his behavior, while Agent McGavin wants to take them down hard at every opportunity.
​
During a series of investigations and shootings that accompany the film, McGavin meets the beautiful Luisa Gómez (María Conchita Alonso) with whom he will have a passionate and fleeting romance.
​
While the relationship between two rival gangs, the Crips and the Bloods worsens, it is no longer just a fight for territory. The drug business moves a lot of money and street fighting has claimed many lives.  
​
This investigation will take them to the darkest point of the gang war and the decisions they must make are fundamental if they want to get out of there alive.
